Hello.

Thanks for stopping in - I hope you'll read for a while, and maybe write me a note in return!

Being grateful

Well, looks like I took a BIT of a bloggy break!  Was it John Lennon who said "life is what happens while you're making other plans"?  While I may have planned to write blog posts as a journalling exercise in gratitude, life rolled over me like a great wave. But, I surfaced!

One of the things I have been grateful for is the blogs that I read. And I read everyday, so I really appreciate those wonderful bloggers who manage to write daily! Claudia at Mockingbird Hill cottage is one of those bloggers. She, and blogger Dawn at Creative Cain Cabin are having a monthly series of handmade felt ornaments for 2014. Those who follow along will end up with 24 cute handmade ornaments in time for Christmas this year!

I thought I'd expand my blog experience and follow along. Here are my January ornaments, made from scraps of felted wool sweaters. I have to say that these are such fun and quick to make, and the patterns are very versatile!

Thank you, Claudia and Dawn!

With gratitude, Barb

    1. Love the herringbone twill bear! Did you fuse something to the back of your fabric to keep it from fraying?

  3. Your felt critters turned out lovely, and like me, I see you did a bit of tweaking to the pattern. Mine are here craftygardener.ca if you have time to visit.

    1. I've browsed your blog before. The embroidered feathers on your owl are lovely! Must be very small! I had trouble cutting my felt into small eyes, so I used beads and small snap fasteners - I see you chose googly eyes. My hubby thought I was making finger puppets - I may have to because they are fun to play with!

    1. Oh! I'm so jealous! I've been trying all month to get my daughters and son together to make ornaments. I guess I do have all year... Your owls do have such personality! I like the colours.

  6. Clever idea and your ornaments are precious! I too have started a 12 month Christmas exercise, each month I buy a small gifts for the kids and store them. Then in December I have that less shopping to do. I am storing them in a Tupperware container. I miss Christmas already...sigh. :) Hugs, Diane

    1. Thanks. The ornaments are really fun to make! I just finished the cardinal for February, and I'm looking forward to working on the sheep next. I too like to pick up things that I think my family would like when I get out shopping, and I keep them in my linen cupboard. The only problem is that I frequently forget what is in there :( and overspend. Both my kids have birthdays in December as well!

      Keep warm! Barb
